There is no need to put up with a chimney or fire that’s causing you problems or not working to its full potential. There is always a way to sort it out.

Having been in the business since 1982, we have come across all sorts of problems with chimneys.

We’ve seen all sorts of appliances, and good, bad and dangerous installations. We’ve seen chimneys and stoves in all contexts – in buildings that are hundreds of years old and buildings that are still under construction, in tents, caravans and boats and in manor houses, colleges and factories. We’ve seen everything from huge Inglenook fireplaces you can sit in to diverse kinds of home-made stoves.* All can be problematic, and all can be brought back to health, by following principles of sizing, draw and air supply. Our knowledge and understanding of building regulations means we can ensure not just improved functionality, but also safety and legality.

(* We might be able help improve the functioning of a home-made stove, but we couldn’t guarantee its safety, nor make it legally unproblematic. We couldn’t give you a certificate of safety for the appliance, only the chimney. So, in the event of an accident involving the appliance, your insurers would not accept your claim.)

Problematic situations we commonly encounter include:
- Smoke not going up the chimney at all
- Smoke entering room or rooms other than the one where the fire is
- Smoke entering the neighbour's house (or smoke entering your house, from the neighbour’s)
- Smoke coming out of multiple chimney pots
- Chimney-related damp
- Too much heat being produced by the fire
- Not enough heat being produced by the fire
- The fire not really even starting properly, despite best efforts
- Chimney giving off smell of soot, even when not being used
- The room with the fireplace in always getting cold when the wind blows
- The fire burning up far too quickly

We are often asked just to check whether a chimney or appliance is dangerous, normally following worrying signs or years out of use. Also customers often want to know whether their chimneys really need lining. Often they don’t, despite claims to contrary made by less scrupulous or misinformed tradesmen.

Why not read some of the testimonials and find out what people have said about the chimney sweeping service and roof repairing we offer.
